Elizabeth Jane Spangler was born at Sangamon, Ill., December 24, 1852, and departed this life August 28, 1917. Age at death, 64 years 8 months and 4 days. Was married to George W. Veech of Sangamon, Ill., in 1876. To this union was born two daughters, Mrs. Henrietta Baker of Fort Scott, Kan., and Mrs. Grace Ferguson of Holly, Colo. Mr. Veech died August 27, 1881. In 1883 she was married to Albert Barton of Enon, Ohio, and the following spring they moved to their home about five miles southwest of Garland, where they have resided continuously since. To this union was born two sons, Albert Edwin, who preceded his mother to the better land, November 17, 1893; Rufus J., who resided at the home. She is survived by the husband and three children and three grandchildren, also two sisters, Mrs. Ida Chenoweth of Wellington, Kan., and Mrs. Nellie Hawkins of Sangamon, Ill. All were present at her bedside except Mrs. Hawkins. Funeral services were conducted at her late home Wednesday at 2 p. m. by F. M. Dyer and her body was laid to rest in the Forest Hill cemetery, near Arcadia, following by a very large crowd of sympathizing friends, some of whom have known her for the thirty-three years she has lived here. We can all say truly, a loving wife and mother is gone, a generous neighbor has left us and our hearts are heavy for the loss to her aged companion and her children and grandchildren and her sisters. She possessed a sunny spirit and was much loved by all her neighbors. Rest in peace, wife, mother, sister, neighbor.
