Cecil Carl Adams, 90, of Freeport went to rest on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Freeport Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 15, 1921 in Lena, the son of the late Charles Herbert Adams and Mamie Sybilla Phillips.

Beloved husband of 70 years of Mary Margaret Blum.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in WWII in Europe. Recipient of the Purple Heart Award.

He was a life-time member of Freeport VFW post 998.
Cecil retired from Freeport Supply Company in 1984, prior to that he made ice cream for Oak Brand Dairy. Cecil was an avid fisherman, bowler and horse shoe pitcher. He and his wife have been all over the U.S. while taking their children camping each summer, during their growing up year. He has been a member of the Freeport Church of the Brethren since the 1950s.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Margaret, whom he married in 1942 in Memphis, Mo.; one son, Carl (JoAnn) Adams of Joliet; three daughters, Carol Honan of Santa Anna, Cal.; Mary Anna Fillmore of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Anna Marie Adams of Orange, Cal.; brother, LaVern Adams of Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Theora Young of Apache Junction, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were one sister, Virginia Sisler; brothers Ralph and LeRoy; and one grandchild, Tammie Lynn Porter.

In 2006 Cecil decided to donate his body to science, therefore there will be no funeral.

A memorial service is planned and will be announced in the paper in the near future.
