MOORESVILLE - Mr. Lester Barkley 77, of Parker Ave., died December 8, 1996 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Mourne Church of God, Mt. Mourne, with Rev. Lawrence Ownbey officiating. Burial is in Willow Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at Cavin Funeral Home.
Born in Huntersville, he was a retired after 27 years of service as a foreman with the NC State Department of Transportation. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with three Bronze service stars and the Victory Medal. He was a member of Mt. Mourne Church of God where he was past Sunday School superintendent, church trustee and member of the Men's Council.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Robertson Barkley of the home; daughter, Mrs. Linda Barkley Morgan of Concord; sisters, Mrs. Lucy Barkley Holmes of Charlotte and Mrs. Alta Barkley Ewing of Monroe; grandchildren, Mrs. Amy Morgan Garrow, Mrs. Kimberly Drake and Chad Morgan; and 5 great-grandchildren.
