MRS. E. L. DOWLING PASSES AWAY
Our people were greatly shocked this morning when the news of the death of Mrs. Early L. Dowling was announced. The end came last night about seven o'clock. She had been quite feeble for some time and had only recently spent some time at Montgomery under the treatment of a specialist, who pronounced her trouble cancer of the stomach[sic]. Every thing possible for her recovery was done but all effort failed and her spirit is now at rest. Mrs. Dowling was a good woman. She was a fond mother a faithful companion and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a member of the Methodist church of this city and lived up to the teachings of her church. She was the daughter of the late Joe Baker, a pioneer citizen of Dothan and is a sister of Hon. Joe Baker who was recently nominated for Mayor of Dothan. At the hour of going to press the funeral arrangements have not been made but we understand that they will likely be held tomorrow, interment taking place at the Claybank cemetery. Mrs. Dowling leaves a husband and several children besides a number of relatives and friends to whom the Star tenders i[t]s most profound sympathy in this their great sorrow and bereavement.
