Kezer Hancock was born March 19, 1811 in New Hampshire. He came west to Illinois sometimes prior to 1839 when he married Christina Peters Leighton on January 9, 1839 in Tazewell County. Kezer and Christina settled in Groveland, Illinois where they farmed and raised her children from her first marriage, Noah, David and Andrew Leighton. They also raised two adopted children, Sarah E. and John A. Hodge. Kezer passed away on June 14, 1884, presumably in Groveland.
