Caution: the first name as used on the inscription was/is "Ora", and that is being used on this memorial for that reason. However, it should be noted that the obituary of her husband listed her first name as "Aura", so either that was an error in his obituary or the inscription for her was a phonetic variation, either in error or a name she used during life aside from a legal name of "Aura" (Ora May used in her own Fairfield Ia. Ledger obituary). Any clarification would be appreciated, but will use the inscription version pending any credible documentation otherwise.

Also, her obituary listed her DOB year as 1887, but her inscription used/uses 1888. Will use the inscription year 1888 pending any clarification.

Rites Pending For Mrs. Nutt

Mrs. Fred Nutt, long-time resident of Fairfield, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Ottumwa hospital in Ottumwa where she had been a patient for the past week.

The body is at the Weston Behner funeral home where last rites are pending.

Mr. and Mrs. Nutt have lived at 502 S. Fifth street for the past several years. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Donald Abbey, Fairfield, survive.

Mr. and Mrs. Abbey were attending a Legion convention in Denver, Colo., when her mother died. They were on their way home this morning.

Rites Thursday For Mrs. Nutt

Last rites will be Thursday for Mrs. Fred R. Nutt, well known Fairfield resident who passed away Sunday at the Ottumwa hospital.

The services Thursday will be held at the Weston Behner funeral home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold G. Kruger in charge. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn cemetery.

Mrs. Nutt's death followed a long illness. She had been in failing health for the past nine months and a patient in the hospital at Ottumwa for the past two weeks. The family home is at 502 S. Fifth street.

Ora May Nutt (sic), 74, was born May 8, 1887 (sic), at Mendon,Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Smith Gilliland. She was married to Fred R. Nutt on Dec. 24, 1912. They have been residents of Fairfield for the past 36 years.

Mrs. Nutt was a member of the First Lutheran church, Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge No. 386.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald Abbey, Fairfield; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Roy Burr, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and Mamie Gilliland, Denver, Colo.; also a brother, Henry Gilliland, Martinsburg, Iowa (sic. possibly # 146464078 ??).

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
