Mrs Margaret Balster Schultz, one of this community's oldest residents, who observed her 100th birthday last Dec. 15, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Monday in Community General Hospital.
Mrs. Schultz, who had been making her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Schultz, 913 W. 5th St., Sterling, had been in fairly good health despite her advanced age, until just recently. She was always keenly interested in local affairs and was always close in touch with the news of the day.
She was born in Germany, Dec. 15, 1855, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dietrich Balster. Her parents came to the United States when she was one year of age, and she resided in this area ever since. Upon their arrival they settled near Dixon, and later moved to Emerson. Mrs Schultz had spent most of her lifetime in Emerson and Sterling. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Surviving her are the following children: Mrs John Graeff, Galt; Mrs Hulda Habben, Julius and Karl Schultz, Sterling; Robert and Anton Schultz, Rock Falls, and Herman Schultz, Milbank, S.D.; 20 grand-children, and nine great grand-children; a brother, Herman Balster, Emerson, and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius; two sons and one daughter, two grandchildren, one brother and one sister.
The body was removed to the Trouth Funeral Home, where friends may call at any time. At noon Wednesday the body will be taken to St. Paul Lutheran Church, there to lie in state until 2 p.m. the hour of the services to be conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.A. Kalkwarf. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.
