James Bailey emigrated to Canada in the
1830s and settled in the area of Bury,
Quebec. He was married to Jane Taylor
about 1835. They had three children, Joseph,
Anna and Mary Jane. After his wife's
death he married Rachel Snelling on
Mar.13,1844 in Bury.
By 1850 the family had moved from
Quebec to a farm in Woolwich township
in Waterloo County, Ontario.
Although 'old age' was the cause named on
the death certificate he actually died from
exposure, having wandered away from his
grandson's home (where he had lived for five
years) and fell into water.
Buried-Jan. 22, 1906; funeral from the home
of his grandson, James W. DeKay in Woolwich
Township.
