John Eugene Steffan was born on Sep 5, 1889 in Jefferson, Ross Co, Ohio. His father Peter Steffan b1847 was 42 and his mother Susan Haynes Steffan was 42. He had an older brother Lewis and three older sisters, 0ne of which is listed below. His mother had been married before and two of his half brothers are listed below as well. He married his first wife Pauline in Aug 1909 in Columbus, Ohio. They are found on the 1910 census as newlyweds. It is not certain what became of her, as in 1919 he is found living at his mothers home. He remarried in 1920 to Clara Steffan, however that marriage ended in divorce. On the 1940 census he is listed as a Divorced Auto Salemen. Shortly thereafter he married for the 3rd time to Anna Merrick who is listed below as being buried next to him. They were living in the Grandview Inn in Westerville, Ohio as of 1941/42. He passed away on April 12, 1943 in Columbus, Franklin Co, Ohio, at the age of 53. What is interesting about this family is that his half-brothers were also his cousins because they both have a common ancestor in Johann Philip Stephan of 1681.
