The correspondent from Cheraw for the 4 Nov 1872 issue of the Charleston Daily News reported the happenings at the first "The Great Pee Dee Fair," on the boundary of the Carolinas, which occurred from Oct 23-25. Entertainment included a band and there were numerous categories of exhibits. Mrs. K. T. MORGAN won five dollars for contributing the heaviest hog. In the Household Department, Sarah won silver awards for the best okra and tomatoes for winter use, japonica jelly, grape wine and pickles.
