He served as Pvt., Co. I, Lancaster District, SC Palmetto Reg't of Volunteers in the Mexican War of 1846 and was Lancaster's last surviving soldier. He was Captain of Co. H., 2nd Inf. 'Lancaster Invincibles' in the war between the states and Sheriff of Lancaster County the same decade. He served as Lancaster Representative to the SC Legislator in the early 1880s.
