James Earl Nixon

James Earl Nixon, 67, died of cancer on January 8, 2007, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born on October 28, 1939, to Clarence and Laverne. He graduated from Brazosport High School and Stephen F. Austin College. He was an avid athlete and excelled in football, golf and track and field. In golf, he had many holes-in-one. He still holds the oldest record (1961) at his alma mater in the discus throw of 173'11." He also enjoyed a brief stint as a professional football player in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders. He spent most of his life in Texas and partially retired to Colorado in 2000. He loved the mountains and the outdoors, and was an avid camper, hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Nixon of Long Beach, New York; son, James Nixon of Utica, New York; grandchild, Olivia Rose Nixon of Utica, New York; and sisters, Pearlene Nixon, Nancy Nixon and Linda Nixon.

Mr. Nixon was preceded in death by his brother, Cotton Nixon, and his sister, Charlene Nixon.

A service in his honor will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Arlington National Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.
