Birchdale Past & Present: Nellie was born in Sweden, the daughter of Peter & Gunilla Person. The family emigrated to the United States when Nellie was only 1 year old. They first settled in Albert Lee, MN & then moved to Detroit Lakes. In 1913, they moved to a home place southwest of Birchdale. Nellie had 5 siblings, all born in Minnesota: Ellen, Alma (Lundgren), Manville, Edlyn, & Arlene (Carew). Ellen & Edlyn died at a young age.
Nellie married Dan Danielson & they homesteaded about a mile east & south of the Persons. They lived in a log house for many years & had 2 children: LD & Gertrude. Eventually they bought 80 acres from Anna Staaf & moved to a house 1 mile east of her parents.
Nellie was a great cook & baker. She also made sure that her grandchildren got to Sunday School in Birchdale. Grandsons Curtis & Roger Danielson stayed with their grandparents on weekends & during the summer & helped on the farm.
