Virginia Rose (Detzler) Lumbert, 95, a long-time resident of Sanford, Michigan, passed away at Brittany Manor – Midland on February 10, 2024. A loyal servant of the Lord and fervent follower of the Catholic faith, Virginia passed away peacefully of natural causes into the next life. Virginia was a member of St. Agnes /Our Lady of Grace Parish of Sanford. She was born March 6, 1928, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to Anna Mary Gesiger and John August Detzler.


She will be remembered for the pounds of potatoes peeled for her legendary homemade French Fry Fridays and her quick wit. The family would like to thank the team at Brittany Manor -Midland for their nurturing care of Virginia for the past four years as well as her friends from St Agnes Parish who shared a special bond of faith and friendship with her.

Besides her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by brothers Donald, Victor, and John Detzler, and two sisters: Josephine James, and Alice Trammell. She was predeceased by her daughter Janet (Lumbert) Rosales and Grandson Todd Lumbert. A graveside service took place at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery immediately following the church service.
