Marvin Hugh Eargle Sr., 53, of 1716 Enoree avenue, died at 8:20 Friday morning at the Baptist Hospital after an illness of six months.

Mr. Eargle was an employed by the Southern Railway Company for the past 33 years. At the time of his death, he was an engineer for the company.

Mr. Eargle was the son of the late J. J. G. Eargle and Hattie Bickley Eargle.

He was a member of the Main Street Methodist church, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and the Masonic Order.

He is survived by his widow, the former Emma Catherine Edgar; four sons; Guy Hamilton Eargle of Furman University, Marvin Hugh Eargle Jr., Condon McFloyd Eargle and Roger Coatesworth Eargle all of Columbia; one grandson, Guy Hamilton Eargle Jr.; his mother, Mrs. Hattie Bickley Eargle and Waldo Lamar Eargle both of Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 this afternoon from the McCormick Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. A. B. Ferguson, pastor of the Main Street Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. James C. Copeland and the Rev. John Madison Younginer. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be, G. B. Herndon, D. Albert Cannon, T. Eugene McCullough, Lynn E. Dicks, George H. Long and J. E. Kirby, engineers.

Honorary pallbearers will be; J. Frank Rader, Clarence M. McAlhany, Cary L. Mauney, John B. Gebhart, E. Fronke Stone, Edward S. Diggie, Robert L. Hitchcock, T. G. Bennett, Ben Franklin Bennett, George P. Hanlin, John Henry Miller, H. Madison Bauknight, Herbert L. Bickley, E. Carroll Lorick, E. U. Bouknight, C. Welch Sr.; members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers; retired engineers and Harry S. Prim, Dr. J. Heyward Gibbs, Dr. Bruce Edgerton Jr., and Dr. Roger Doughty.
