=====
He was a soldier under George Rogers Clark in Illinois during the Revolutionary War. Joseph served under Captain Joseph Bowman as a private and was later promoted to the rank of sergeant. Anderson settled near Kaskaskia, Illinois on the east side of the Kaskaskia River near the mouth of Nine-Mile Creek in Randolph County. He had a wife named Mary who he wed in 1768. One time he and fellow veteran soldier under Clark, James Curry were out hunting, as Curry never returned, it is supposed that Curry was killed by the Indians and his body taken away by them. Joseph Anderson later, applied with the government for a veteran soldier pension. His name is on a bronze marker on the Sparta High School grounds, placed by Fort Chartres Chapter DAR in 1934.
