Raymond L. Blowers, most recently an honored and beloved guest at Highland View Health Care, Brockway, and formerly of 516 Elm Ave., Clearfield, has obtained citizenship in heaven on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, not by any works he did, but by his faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Ray was born on March 13, 1922, in Tyrone to Russell R. Blowers and Gracie (Maney) Blowers.

He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1940.

On May 31, 1944, he married Lois Hummel of Philipsburg in Philipsburg United Methodist Church.

HE enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served in England and France. He was a C-47 pilot with the 436th Troop Carrier Squadron of the 101st Airborne Unit. His plane was shot down during the Battle of the Bulge and he escaped capture through Holland via the Dutch Resistance. He was awarded the Air Medal, Silver Star and Purple Heart for serving his country.

Following the war, he returned to his devoted wife in Philipsburg and worked as an appliance repairman for several small hardware stores, and also worked at Sears and Roebuck for 31 years doing repair and installation work. Following retirement, he worked for Leitzinger's Department Store in the same field.

In 1950, Ray and Lois moved to Clearfield to the home they shared for more than 55 years. In 1969, Ry became a charter member of Calvary Independent Bible Church, now known as Riverview Bible Church. He served as a deacon, trustee and treasurer during his many years of faithful attendance. Rejoice Evermore I Thess. 5:16

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mabel Gill and June Walls; and three brothers, Kenneth, Russell and Charles Homer.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Clearfield and two brothers, Robert Lee Blowers of Tyrone and Donald Blowers of Leechburg.

Ray was the father of six children, Melvin Lynn and his wife, Gloria, of Sautee, Ga., Raymond K. of Michigan City, Ind., and his former wife, Kimberly, of Michigan City, Larry D. and his wife, Jan, of Gladstone, Mo., Jeffrey B. of Bells Landing and his former wife, Becky, of Curwensville, Kathleen J. Lamoreau and her husband, Dennis, of Olanta and Helen G. Rhine and her husband, John, of Curwensville. He was the grandfather of seven grandsons and one granddaughter, Stuart and Victor Blowers of Indiana, Micah and Stephen Blowers of Missouri, Justin Ogden of Olanta and Penn State University, Christina, Lewis and Adam Rhine of Curwensville.

Services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, on Monday at 1 p/.m. with the Rev. Dan Stroupe officiating.

Interment will follow at Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and Monday from noon until 1 p.m.

Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Clearfield American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts.

Following the service friends and family are invited to a time of fellowship and a luncheon at the Riverview Bible Church, Clearfield.
