Harry Webster Roof Jr., 78, of Boyne City, passed away at his home on Monday, Sept. 10, 2001.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. Elder Raymond Ecker will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City.

Junior was born on April 3, 1923, in Boyne City, the son of Harry W. and Goldie Savage Roof Sr. He lived his entire life in Boyne City. Harry served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and then sailed the Great Lakes for the Merchant Marines. He then worked for Howe Bros. Tanning & Extract Co. for 19 years until its closure. Mr. Roof then went to Northern Michigan Hospital where he was an X-ray assistant for more than 19 years. On Feb. 15, 1947, he married Katherine Jenkins. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he was an ordained deacon.
