LaVetta was born April 11, 1932, in Boyne City, to Harry and Goldie (Sage) Roof. She grew up in Boyne City and attended Boyne City Schools. In 1949 she married Mr. Martin Beer.

On Nov. 4, 1954, she married Victor Howard; the couple made their home in Boyne City where they raised their family.

LaVetta was employed for six years with Boyne Products until she took a position with Courters, which became Honeywell. She retired in 1997 after 32 years on the job.

She was a warm and loving wife and mother who raised five daughters, four of whom survive and they include Carol (Ray) Adams of Boyne City, Marilyn (Bud) Beebe of Boyne City, Karen (Ferd) Dielman of Petoskey and Lorraine Priest of Traverse City. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding LaVetta in death were her husband, Victor, in 1998 and their daughter, Noreen, in 2006; she was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Alivia Christine, in 2003.

She carried within her heart a deep and abiding faith in God. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Boyne City, she shared her faith through her gift of song as a member of the church choir.

LaVetta's family is planning a private graveside service at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City in the near future.
