ABBOTSFORD - A former Abbotsford resident, George G. Bender, 80, died at 4:35 p.m. Monday at the Clark County Hospital in Owen. He had been a resident of the Clark County Nursing Home and Hospital for the past five years. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Polnaszek Funeral Home in Abbotsford, with burial to follow in the Colby Memorial cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning Wednesday evening. Mr. Bender was born Dec. 29, 1893, in Richland County, and received his education at Richland Center. About 1934, he came to the town of Frankfort, where he operated a farm, and later farmed in the Athens area. He then came to Abbotsford and was employed at Our Own Hardware Store and for a while operated a little grocery store on N. Third street. He was married Aug. 19, 1916, at Baraboo, to the former-Emma Guse, who preceded him in death in 1953. Surviving him are two sons, Henry, Neillsville, and Melvin, Mosinee; three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Florence) Denzine, Medford, Mrs. Eldred (Avenelle) Empey, Rib Lake, and Mrs. Virginia Koehn, Florida; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, and a sister.
