LEVI SAYLOR, 61, DIES AT HOSPITAL
Benscreek Resident Father-in-Law of Rev. B. E. Coleman; Burial Thursday
Levi Saylor, aged 61 years, a prominent resident of Benscreek, whose health had been impaired for some time, died at an early hour this morning at the Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since last Thursday. The deceased was the father-in-law of the Rev. Boyd E. Coleman, pastor of the Bedford street Evangelical Church, the body having been removed by W. C. Flick, mortician, to the Coleman home, 428 Oak street, this afternoon. The funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, the body to lie in state at the Roxbury Evangelical Church from 1 to 2:30 o'clock. The funeral services will be in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. M. Miller, to be assisted by the Rev. W. W. Elrick, of Moxham; the Rev. P. W. Baer, of Ferndale, all former pastors of the Roxbury congregation. Interment will be in the Berkley Cemetery in Upper Yoder Township.
Levi Saylor was born near Thomas' Mills, Somerset County, July 7, 1871, and was a son of Jacob Saylor, who passed away about 1881, and Mrs. Susannah (Speigle) Saylor, whose death occurred in 1920. Levi Saylor and Catherine Keafer were married here about 40 years ago by the Rev. A. J. Beal, deceased, then the pastor of Triinity Evangelical Church, now the First Evangelical Church. Mrs. Saylor is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Keafer, deceased, who once resided in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, and later in Upper Yoder Township.
Many years ago Levi Saylor worked for the Cambria Iron Company and later for the National Radiator Company in Moxham. From the latter plant he went to work in the steel foundry of the Lorain Steel Company, resigning about two years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Saylor made their home for a long time on Derby street, Roxbury, removing to Benscreek about eight years ago. Mr. Saylor was one of the charter members of the Roxbury Evangelical Church, having joined it during the pastorate of the Rev. G. C. McDowell. The deceased was a class leader and Trustee, was teacher of the Live Wire Junior Bible Class, and was identified with the male quartet connected with the church choir.
Mrs. Saylor survives her husband with these children: Erma, wife of the Rev. B. E. Coleman; Arlo Saylor, of 248 Derby street, intermarried with Anna Clawson; Norris Saylor, of Cover Hill, intermarried with Jessie Mock; Arthur Saylor, of 703 Linden avenue, intermarried with Esther Pfeister; Florence, wife of Frank Stanley, of Detroit, and Sanford Saylor, of 1002 McKinley street, intermarried with Ruth Metzgar. The surviving children are Kenneth, Mary Catherine, Betty Jean, Clifford and Donald Saylor and Boyd E. Coleman, jr.
The deceased was a brother of Mrs. Daniel J. Thomas, of Thomas' Mills; Jacob, Joseph and James Saylor, also of Thomas' Mills; Lawrence Saylor, of 1322 Saylor street, and Mrs. David Berkey, of 1316 Saylor street. Three other brothers, John, Moses and Samuel Saylor, preceded him to the grave.
