**********
Guy Henry Kelsay was born over a Saloon in Marion, Indiana on February. 24, 1876, which was his mother, Louvenia (Winslow) Kelsay's 20th birthday. From such a humble beginning, however, Guy went to Purdue University and graduated in 1900 as an Electrical Engineer. He had a very successful career in Indianapolis, Indiana, working for the Indianapolis Power and Light Company.

Guy was attending the Fairmount Quaker Academy in 1894. A new girl by the name of Cassie Ellen Wiltsie had just started there, and didn't have the right books the first day. Guy loaned her his books, and a friendship soon developed between the two that would eventually culminate in marriage.

Guy Kelsay was life-long friends with Harry D. Wood, his first cousin, who was the son of Emma J. Kelsay and Francis Marion Wood. Guy was dating Cassie Wiltsie, and Harry was dating Mary Lindley. The two couples were together a lot and were always close friends. They planted an Elm tree in front of the Fairmount Friends Academy and called it: "The Mary Ellen Tree". The two couples were pictured in their respective buggies on each side of the tree. This was sometime before 1900. Unfortunately, the tree caught Dutch Elm disease in later years and died. The Academy was finally torn down also.

When Guy graduated from the Fairmount Quaker Academy, he went to Purdue University and obtained his Electrical Engineering Degree. Cassie graduated the same year from Earlham Quaker College in Richmond, Indiana. Both of them had school debt to pay off to relatives that had helped them attend College. Guy's first job was in Marion, Indiana. He was in charge of the street car business (Marion Transit Railway Company) there, which included producing the power to run the midnight car to Gas City to pick up workers getting off work from the midnight shift. Marion use to have electric lines that ran overhead and powered the street cars that ran all over town. Street cars were a common thing in most cities after the turn of the century. The natural gas was running out in Indiana, and people had to turn to electric power.

While Guy was working in Marion, Cassie was teaching School at Hemlock. She taught 11th and 12th grades and was the Principal of the School. Her mother, Rachel was the Minister of the Hemlock Friends Meeting.

At Christmas of 1900, Guy took Cassie an Opal ring and really shocked her, as Quakers did not wear rings. (She actually didn't receive a wedding ring until about 35 years later!) Cassie planned to teach another year at Hemlock, and then go to Terre Haute, Indiana for a year and get a life license, but Guy talked her out of that, and they were married on June 12, 1901. They would be married for 48 years and have six children. During their married life, they resided in Anderson, Indiana, Oberlin, Ohio, Montpelier, Indiana and Indianapolis, Indiana. When Guy retired from the Indianapolis Power and Light Company, they moved to Green Fork, Indiana (near Richmond) to reside with their daughter, Mary L. (Kelsay) Hartman, and her husband, Paul Hartman. Guy was living there when he passed away in 1949.
