Frances Ursula Goodwin was born April 4, 1893 and departed this life Feb. 5, 1981 at age 87 years, 10 months, 1 day. She was born near Birmingham, Ala, and moved with her parents to Maysville, Indian Territory in 1898 remained there until 1904 when they came to the farming community near Sweetwater.
Frances was married to George Powers on Nov. 23, 1914 in Sayre, Okla. They have resided in Roger Mills County most of their married life, moving to Cheyenne in 1957 where they have lived the past 23 years.
Eight children were born to this union. One son, J.B., preceded her in death. Her parents, 2 brothers; 2 sisters and one grandson also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, George Powers; 4 daughters, Velma Walker, Bethany, Opal Stephenson, Cheyenne, Mae Koppy, Colorado Springs, CO and Jeanne Lowery, Anaheim, Calif.; three sons, Delbert, Custer City, Jim, Yukon and Jack, Colorado Springs, CO; one sister, Emma Perry, Sweetwater, 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 9, 1981 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cheyenne with Rev. David Stegall, a grandson, officiating. Grandsons, John Wes and Rick Powers, of Reydon; John, Bob and Mick Powers of Yukon and Tim Powers of Colorado Springs, were Pallbearers.
