The bombing occurred during one of the busiest tourist periods of the year in Kuta Beach, driven in part by many Australian sporting teams making their annual end-of-season holiday. The attack killed 202 people (88 Australians, 38 Indonesians, 23 Britons, and people of more than 20 other nationalities), and injured a further 209 people.
