George W. Ady was born to Jonathon Ady and Hannah Nearing on January 1, 1843 in or near Toledo, Ohio. He later moved with his parents, brothers Byron and William and sister Mary Jane to Indiana.
He enlisted in the 75th Indiana Volunteers Infantry, Company K on August 8, 1862. He mustered out on June 8, 1865.
He married Mary Ady, daughter of his Uncle Robert Ady and Sophia (Bowles) Ady, on January 1, 1867. In 1870, George, Mary, Emma J. and Jonathan C. lived in Union Township, Wells County Indiana. Ten years later, George and Mary lived in Newburg Township, Cass County Michigan in 1880. Children listed on the 1880 census were Emma J. 12, John 10, George 8, Arthur 6, Grace 3, Gertrude 1.
On the 1890 Veterans Schedule of Surviving Soldiers his rank was listed as Corporal and his residence was Cedar Creek Township, Muskegon County Michigan.
