Please note:Ephraim Jr and Timothy are said to be twins. Ephraim's birthplaces are said to be New Jersey, Virginia, Fayette Twp., Chester Co., Pennsylvania, Fayette Co., Pennsylvania and Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania by various researchers. Timothy's birth place is record as Washington Twp., Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania or Noble Co., Ohio, with better documentation showing he was born in Pennsylvania. Obviously if these men were twins, they were born in the same location. Part of Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania later (1783) became Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, and this I believe accounts for some of the discrepancies. Catfish Camp, Virginia where the family had resided, later became Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania, again accounting for variation in documentation.

The following was shared by Diane Taylor, contributor 49216389. Ephraim had maple sugar trees on his land which he made sugar and molasses. He is said to have disliked braggarts. While in Pennsylvania helping his brother, Timothy, drive hogs across the mountains to Baltimore, he came upon a tavern-keeper boasting that he had the best featherbeds. Ephraim told him he had never slept in a feather bed and offered him 50 cents for its use. The man took him up and showed him to the room, whereupon Ephraim ripped open the featherbed and crawled in. Next morning, he brushed off the feathers, ate his breakfast and left on his journey. The group had not gone far, when the landlord overtook them and demanded pay for the featherbed. Ephraim said "I gave you 50 cents to sleep in your featherbed and I paid you the money, so you may return". The others agreed as to the facts, so the landlord returned without more pay.
