A good photo of both Maud and her husband, Will Armitage, is part of this biography. Also photos of their children. The book can be Googled and read online. Maud's roots were in Washington County, Maine, back several generations.
"...As a young newspaperman in Butte, Will met Maude Jane Noyes, who was voted the most beautiful girl in Butte City. She was the sister of A. J. Noyes (Ajax), who published the first autobiography published in Montana...Maud was born in St. Anthony, Minn., September 5, 1860. Her family moved to Bannack in 1866. Two years later, they moved to Silver Star...[after her mother, Amy Stanchfield Noyes's death in 1869] Maude was sent to an aunt [this may be an error; research says it was her grandmother, Mary A. (Carrot) Stanchfield] in Minneapolis, not returning to Montana until 1878. Maud and Will were married August 14, 1881, and moved to Helena, where Will worked in a jewelry store...she was very ill the last year of her life and stayed in Dillon with her daughter, Amy Stephens. She died there June 11, 1927...Will died on the ranch June 21, 1935..."
