Gretchen I. Simmons, 80, of 22 Glenhaven Road, died Thursday at the Baron Center. Born in Lincoln, Neb., daughter of Guy I. and Bertha Wimberly Waltz, she was a graduate of Amesbury (Mass.) High School and Gorham Normal School. She lived in Waterville for many years, and moved here 21 years ago. She was a piano teacher and organist at St. Marks's Epsicopal Church for seven years. She was a member of the Philathea Class of the First Baptist Church in Waterville, and a member of the Golden Friendship Club. She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church and played for the Clearing House Picnics. Surviving are two sons, Roger E. of Charleston, Ark., and Frederick A. Simmons of Benton; a daughter June C. Simmons of Portland; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church Waterville. The Rev. Stanley Wheeler will officiate. Arrangements are by Gallant Funeral Home, Waterville.
