Jacob Baggenstoss, Sr., Taken Away to Eternal Rest
The death of Jacob Baggenstoss which occurred on Monday morning takes away from this vicinity another of the old settlers and pioneers. The cause of his death is at tribute to catarh of the stomach which he had been suffering from for some time. He was 74 years, 7 month and 20 days old.
Funeral was conducted from the German Evangelical church yesterday afternoon, December 18, 1912, and Rev. Waldemann, of St. Cloud officiated. The body was laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery besides the remains of his wife. The following old friends acting as pall bearers: Charlie Hodel, Fritz Hodel, Ernest Schultz, William Christen, John and Frank Gilk.
The following relatives from a distance were in attendance at the funeral: Mrs. Guy Randolph, of Elroy, Wisconsin; Miss Lietz, of Sabin, this state; Frank Naegeli and August Schumann, of St. Cloud; Mr. Neuman, of Melrose; besides all the sons and daughters from out of town.
Jacob Baggenstoss, Sr., was born in Rafts, Canton Zurich, Switzerland, on April 26, 1838. He came to America on July 3, 1880, settling at once on the old farm where he passed away. Mr. Baggenstoss was a loved husband and neighbor, always doing as he thought best. His wife preceded him in death three years ago.
Those who survive to mourn his great loss are nine children, five son and four daughters as following: Jacob, Jr., of Richardtson, N. Dak., Gottlieb, of Langford, N. Dak., William, of Akeley, Minn., and Fred and Alex, of Albany; Mrs. William Foss, of Paddington, N. Dak., Mrs. Peter Dirkes, of Richardtson, N. Dak., Mrs. Charlie Christen and Miss Martha Baggenstoss, both of Albany. Besides a number of grand children and great great grandchildern.
The family has the heartfelt and sincere sympathy of the entire community.

According to the Ebenezer Evangelical Lutheran Church records, Jacob was born in Rass, Canton Zurich, Switzerland. Jacob married Rosine "Rosa" Hodel in Switzerland. They immigrated to America. They had at least one son born in Switzerland and came to America with them.
NOTE: spelling of the village is incorrect in both obituaries. I believe it is RAFZ.
