Peleg Durfee was a mariner and
commanded a vessel; and in the
records at Plymouth he is refer-
red to as Captain Durfee. The
following was copied from "Titles
and Land Marks of Plymouth Colony,"
page 167:
Peleg Durfee married Mary Cole, of
Ephraim, of James. Mrs. Durfee owned
the house once occupied by William R.
Drew, standing on land which was a
part of the homestead lot of John
Howland of the Mayflower.
It was once owned by Edward Gray, who
sold it in 1670 to Rev. John Cotton,
who sold it in 1680 to James Cole, and
it was afterwards owned by Ephraim Cole,
son of James; and was sold in 1743 by
Mrs. Mary, wife of Peleg Durfee, who was
Ephraim's daughter.
