MASON CITY: Rosemary J. DeWitt, 78, of 8014 338th St., Hanlontown, Iowa, died at her home Thursday, November 20, 2003. Memorials may be directed to the Rosemary DeWitt Memorial Fund.

Rosemary was born May 28, 1925, the daughter of Francis and Edna (Buffington) Latham, in rural Mt. Vernon Twp., Clear Lake, IA. Rosemary graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1943, and married Kenneth DeWitt on July 6, 1943 in Robbinsdale, MN. Kenneth and Rosemary then farmed in the Hanlontown area. Rosemary loved to garden and raise flowers. She was loved by her grandchildren for her dill pickles and fresh baked rolls; she was also known for chicken and noodles.

Rosemary is survived by her husband Kenneth DeWitt, of rural Hanlontown, IA; seven children, Janelle Nelson and her husband Rich, Rose Creek, MN; Terri Datema and her husband John, of Clear Lake, IA; Tom DeWitt and his wife Sharon, of Rogersville, MO; Jim DeWitt and his wife Barb, of Eaton, OH; Connie Oltman and her husband Mark, of Manly, IA; Karen Mundt and her husband Jim, of Chariton, IA; Billie DeWitt and Darius Piippo, of Mason City; five sisters, Frances Margaret Rutledge and her husband Lew of Grand Rapids, MI; Helen Latham of Wheaton, IL; Beverly Swan of St. Louis Park, MN; Veronica Enabnit and her husband Paul of Mesa, AZ; and Lucy Peevy, of Tulsa, OK; one brother, John Latham of Blakesburg, IA; 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Wes Mundt, Joe Mundt, Ben DeWitt, Tyler Piippo, Trenton Piippo, and Nathaniel Chavez. Pallbearers were John Datema, Stacy Datema, Scott Nelson, Jeremy DeWitt, Andy DeWitt, and Mark D. Oltman.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Betty Bowers; a brother, Richard Latham. Obit: Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, IA.
