Terri Ann (DeWitt) Datema, 72, of Clear Lake, an unbelievable mother, fun-loving grandmother and devoted wife, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020, at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City, surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2020, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Linda Johnson-Prestholt officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2020, also at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

In lieu of customary remembrances, Terri had requested any memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.

Terri was born in Mason City, Iowa on August 31, 1947, to Rosemary (Latham) and Kenneth DeWitt. She was the second in line of seven kids. She grew up on the family farms in rural Mason City, Iowa and then later in Hanlontown, Iowa, on the last family farm.

Terri attended North Central of Manly schools and graduated in 1965. After graduating she started working at the Clear Lake Bakery where she was pursued by a Mr. John William Datema. They were united in marriage on October 14, 1966. To this union five (that's right, five!) children were born. The often-told story being that the oldest and youngest were born on the same day… six years apart!

Terri was a stay-at-home mom for a period of time while also providing daycare for many other children. She worked many part-time jobs while raising her kids to school age, and then she started working fulltime, mostly in Clear Lake. She eventually retired but soon became bored and would start working for the Clear Lake school system in the kitchen. She was fondly known as "Grandma Bev" by the grandkids' friends. She was told by the kids that her given name did not fit for a grandma, so she became Grandma Bev to all and was even listed in the yearbook as such.

Her love of softball was something shared through all generations! For us girls, we were especially lucky to have played on her team with her! The memories made with her teammates were always cherished!! She greatly enjoyed the surprise party the gang threw for her last year!!

There were countless family holidays and gatherings that created memories for a lifetime. The DeWitt's definitely know how to have fun!! The numerous Sisters' gatherings were especially cherished, during which she would often shop for a variety of plants and flowers to add to her gardens. Terri's backyard was always greatly enjoyed while drinking coffee by her fishpond with all her kids and her neighbor.

There were countless Sunday dinners at her house for family, friends and neighbors!! These were never planned but just happened weekly for whoever could stop by!! Anyone you ask would tell you that she was a good "cooker".

Terri's love were her children but most of all the wonderful grandchildren: Mandi, Taylor, Kylee, Tucker and Karter - she helped mold them into the people they are today!! The stories we could all tell!! She was there for every event the grandkids participated in until she could no longer attend due to her health, but luckily due to Facebook she was able to watch live at home!

She will be greatly missed by all who loved her!!

Terri is survived by her husband, John Wm. Datema; children, John W. Datema, Stacy (Sarah) Datema, Denise Datema, Jodi Datema (Jamie Froning), and Heather (Dustin) Huey; grandchildren, Amanda Datema, Taylor Datema (fiancé Sean Langel), Kylee Datema (Matt Stiles), Tucker Datema (Madi Wessels), and Karter Datema; step-grandchildren, Hailey, Zack, Peyton, and Tanner Huey; siblings, Janelle (Rich) Nelson, Tom (Sharon) DeWitt, Jim (Barb) DeWitt, Connie (Mark) Oltman, Karen (Jim) Mundt, Billie DeWitt (Darius Piippo); and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosemary and Kenneth DeWitt; parents-in-law, John and Ruth Datema; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Datema, Shirley Kay Datema, and Bonnie (Mike) Lenz; and many aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and friends.
