Daughter of Charles Tuthill Hawkins and Mary Delphine Thompson, wife of Jay Howard Halsey, whom she married on November 26, 1907, in Manhattan, New York.

Marriage - Halsey-Hawkins - Patchogue, November 29 - A very pretty home wedding took place here Tuesday at high noon at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Hawkins, 400 East Main Street. The occasion was the wedding of their daughter, Miss Bertha Luella Hawkins, to J. Howard Halsey, of Manhattan. The groom holds the responsible position of first officer on a fine vessel of the Morgan steamship line. The parlors were most beautifully decorated with palms and chrysanthemums. The marriage was performed by the Rev. John W. Maynard, of the Patchogue M.E. Church, and as the bridal party entered Mr. York, of Manhattan, rendered the grand Wedding March, from Lohengrin. The bride was charmingly robed in a gown of champagne taffeta and white embroidered chiffon, and her travelling suit was of garnet chiffon broadcloth. The maid of honor was Miss Ella F. Halsey, of Southampton, a sister of the groom, and her dress was an exquisite garnet velvet with white taffeta silk. The best man was Henry G. Yordt, of Manhattan. There were a number of beautiful presents. The invitations were confined to the relatives. An elegant wedding breakfast was served after which, until time to take the 3:30 o'clock afternoon train, jollity and felicitations reigned supreme. Upon their departure the newly wedding couple were deluged with rice as they entered their handsome carriage, which was profusely adorned with rich white satin ribbon and smilax. At the railroad station another joyous time was had. Upon the return from their wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Halsey will reside in Manhattan.
