Barbara I. Klopfenstein, 89, residing in South Bend, IN passed away on July 13, 2012 at home. She was born on September 6, 1922 in Whitley County, IN to the late Claude and Nina (Jellison) Keller. On October 3, 1942 Barbara married, Keith Allen Klopfenstein, Sr., who preceded her in death on August 4, 1989.
Mrs. Klopfenstein is survived by her son, Kent (Diana) Klopfenstein; daughter-in-law, Debora Klopfenstein; five grandchildren, Adam Klopfenstein, Andrea (Stephen) Keeney, Alexander Klopfenstein, Ryan (Tina) O'Neal and Kimberly (Glen) Klein; one great grandson, Kyle Keeney; two sisters, Marge (Charles "Bud") Grannell and Pat (the late Jerry) Lawlor; and two brothers, Tom (Gladys) Keller and Roger (Annette) Keller. Her daughter, Karen O'Neal and her son, Keith Allen Klopfenstein, Jr. both preceded her in death in 2010. Two brothers, Phillip Keller and Foster Keller also preceded in death.
Barbara graduated from Riley High School in 1940. She was a homemaker and helped her husband, Keith, who served as St. Joseph County Commissioner for many years, and also assisted him during his time in advertising in South Bend. Barbara and Keith were involved in many social and political events. Past hobbies included snow skiing, golfing and antiquing. Barbara was an avid Notre Dame fan.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, where burial will take place.
