J. M. Morrison, 67, retired merchant and well known citizen of Morning Sun, died at his home here Friday afternoon, January 24th, following a few days illness. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Dr. W. P. Nicholas of Wyoming, Iowa, a former pastor here, assisted by the local pastor, Dr. J. A. Spyker. The interment was at Elmwood cemetery. The relatives called here for the funeral services were: Mrs. A. J. Laird, David Laird, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace DeLong of Des Moines; Stanley DeLong of Norwood Park, Ill.; Mrs. Ella Crawford and little daughter of Ainsworth; Robert G. Morrison of Minneapolis.
John Moody Morrison was born in Juniata County, PA, September 15, 1862 (Blairs Mills sits on the county lines of Juniata and Huntington Counties). He was the second son of a family of eight children born to David and Marjery Morrison, the former born in Ireland and the latter in Pennsylvania. The family moved to Iowa about 1871. David Morrison engaged in the general merchandising business in Morning Sun for several years, and his son was associated at first with him and in later years after returning from Washington, engaged in the grocery business in this city, thus being engaged in merchantile life practically all his life. September 18, 1891, he was married to Sarah DeLong. Two children were born to this union, Robert E. Morrison and Marjery L. (now Mrs. C. A. Brown), both of Morning Sun. There are the following grandchildren: Betty Mae Morrison and Nancy Rose Morrison and Lucretia, Beth, Roberta, Barbara and Beverly Brown. The following sisters and brothers survive the deceased: Mrs. Sadie Butler and Walter Morrison of Morning Sun; Mrs. A. J. Laird of Des Moines; Robert G. Morrison of Minneapolis; David Charles Morrison of Van Nuys, Cal.
Mr. Morrison was a man of strict integrity in business and courteous and affable in his treatment of customers. For many years he served as an elder in the Presbyterian church in Morning Sun, and was a sincere believer in the fundamentals of the Christian faith. He will be missed in the home and by his friends through out the community.
