Obituary

Carolyn "Carol" Faye Boggs Beecher, known as Kitty to her family, was a fun and fun-loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She juggled farm, family, civic duties, travel, and hobbies with poise, grace, and humor.

Carol was born on February 3, 1944 in Deer Park, WA to Fred and Dorothy Boggs. She was raised there with her brother and sister, John Michael and Dorothy Rae. Growing up she loved raising chickens and bunnies, and fishing with her dad. She was active in Sunday school and the Bethal #29 chapter of Job's Daughters, a fraternal organization where she was honored as Queen. Childhood friends include Karen and Judy.

Carol graduated from Deer Park High School with the class of 1962. During her years there one of her favorite activities was chasing boys. But she didn't find the right one until two years later, when she met Ted Beecher at a honky-tonk in Spokane. Their romance was rapid, and they married on May 16 of that year. They exchanged vows at the First Congregational Church of Spokane, Washington. They enjoyed an active and loving relationship, supporting each other through thick and thin, building a farm, businesses, and a family together. Their many friendships included Don and Jennifer Gay, Chuck and Mary, and Rosemary Farris as well as the Salters, Rudes, Worleys, Lorties, Ramseys, Reidels, Hoffmanns, and Reynolds. They spent many happy days with these couples and their children, cooking out, camping, fishing, and just having fun.

Carol and Ted were blessed with three children: daughter Pamela and sons Daniel and William. The couple encouraged their offspring to be inquisitive and get involved. Carol inspired them to engage in 4H projects, become familiar with the world around them, and most of all to have fun. The children blessed Carol with five grandchildren: Kenton, Krystal, April, Brandon, and Savannah. She loved to make cookies with them and watch their activities.

In addition to her role as farm wife and homemaker, Carol was a business person in her own right, owning a Portland muffin shop called Just Us Muffins at Lake Grove, which she actively ran until she sold it in 1988.

As a born leader, Carol's participation in several fraternal organizations turned into full-time service. She was honored as Queen of the Nile in Daughters of the Nile, Grand Matron and Grand Electra in Order of the Eastern Star (where she belonged to the Valiant-Sellwood and Pioneer chapters), and Majority Member of Job's Daughters. Her service kept her actively traveling the highways and byways of Oregon and the entire United States until just days before she died. Carol was also a long-time member of the Cascade Disney Club.

Raising and showing championship Polled Hereford cattle became a passion for Carol and something she shared with her daughter Pam. They would travel together to auctions and shows, with Carol's herd often bringing home big blue ribbons, and Carol often bringing home yet another prize bull to add to the farm. These trips were opportunities for mother and daughter to laugh out loud together, something they also shared often on trips to "get spiritual" at Oregon's gaming centers. Carol's son-in-law Shawn always helped her with the hard labor on the farm.

Carol loved fishing with her son Daniel when he was a child. She enjoyed hanging out with Dan and his long-time girlfriend Heather, and her kids Jaime and Jessica, and Heather's granddaughter Khloe. Carol loved to watch Daniel bowl in his tournaments.

Son Billy stayed home the longest and enjoyed many trips and cruises with his parents. Pam and Dan always had to help Dad in the barn while little Billy always got to stay with Mommy and do fun stuff. It was great being the baby.

Gregarious by nature, Carol leaves behind many loving friends including Jean Cartwright and Phyllis Newcombe with whom she enjoyed many fun activities including Bunco and Pinochle groups. Carol was a long-time fan of the Portland Trailblazers, ever hoping they would repeat the championship she so greatly enjoyed in 1977.

Travel was one of Carol's great pursuits, and she enjoyed visits to Fiji, Europe, Hawaii, Samoa, Turkey, the Bahamas, and all regions of the United States. In Hawaii her suitcase was lost and Ted went and bought the skimpiest swimsuit. She felt very silly wearing it.

Carol passed away on July 12, 2012 at Providence Hospital from complications of her treatment for pancreatic cancer, which had also taken her husband Ted three years earlier. She is survived by siblings John Michael and Dorothy Rae, children Pam, Daniel, and Billy, and grandchildren Kenton, Krystal, April, Brandon, and Savannah. Services will be held at Abundant Life Church located at 172nd Avenue and Hemrich Road in Damascus at 12:30 on Saturday, July 21st, and she will be laid to rest beside Ted in Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland, Oregon at about 3:00.

Fun was the dominant theme in Carol's life. Whether it was with her spouse, her friends or her family, she was always giving them reasons to laugh out loud. And even when she was the cause of the laughter, she was laughing just as hard. She had not only a great sense of humor but a generous and unselfish nature that she used to enrich the lives of all she encountered.
