On 27 Sep 1868, Thomas H. Crapo, of Odessa Township, Ionia County, Michigan and Anna Clary Klise, of the same locale, were married by S.S. Hoag at the home of the bride's parents in Barry County, Michigan.

Thomas was a Civil War Veteran and nephew of Michigan Governor, Henry Howland Crapo. After Thomas' brother, Jesse Crapo, another Civil War Veteran, died of Typhoid Fever in 1862 near Fair Oaks, Virginia, Thomas became the only surviving son of the family's 9 children.

Thomas Henry Crapo enlisted in Company E of the Reorganized 3rd Michigan Infantry on 23 Sep 1864 in Grand Rapids, Michigan as a Private for a period of 3 years. He was 18 years old. On 24 Sep 1864 he was mustered for active duty. He remained a Private until 18 Oct 1865 when he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Thomas was mustered out of military service at Victoria, Texas on 25 May 1866 (See below and also under Photos for various documents of Thomas Crapo's Civil War Record). On 28 Jun 1880 Thomas applied for his Civil War Pension under the category of invalid. He was in the 33rd year of his age. In his 72nd year, Thomas died at the Soldier's Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was Tuesday morning, 16 Dec 1918.

Civil War Veteran. Former Resident of Lake Odessa. The Only Brother with
Several Sisters.
Thomas Crapo, a civil war veteran, who a number of years ago made his home in this vicinity, died at the Soldier's Home in Grand Rapids Tuesday morning, death having been caused by hiccups. His illness was of four days' duration. The body was brought here Wednesday night accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Maud Grey of Ionia. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Isaac Mourer at the Board of Commerce Rooms Thursday morning at 10 o'clock and interment made in Lakeside cemetery. Mr. Crapo was a brother to Mrs. Hugh Potts here, also to the former Mrs. Henry Van Houten and Mrs. Wallace Lovewell who have been dead for several years.
