The son of Elijah & Lydia C. (Meals) Warren, in 1860 he was a farmer living in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, although by 1862 he presumably was residing in Adams County. He stood 5' 6" tall and had dark hair and dark eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Adams County October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service in Gettysburg November 6 as a private with Co. I, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863.
He married Caroline Josephine Ferguson December 29, 1864, in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, and fathered Samuel G. (b. 03/06/69), Elijah S. (b. 03/10/70), Harry Harrison (b. 05/21/74), Roxanna V. (b. 03/30/76 or 77 - married Frederick Knackstedt), and Rebecca Mae (b. 12/08/82 - married Harvey Stokes Beamer), as well as Elmer and Charles Hooker who both preceding their father in death. In 1891, he lived in Bendersville, Adams County, in 1907, in Biglerville, but died in Menallen Township from "infirmities of old age" with "acute cystitis" a contributing factor. August 5, 1838 is also reported as date of birth. Caroline died just three weeks after her husband.
