It is thought that this is probably the father of Charles H. Maurer, as his burial is in the same plot. Attempts to locate a death record have been unsuccessful to date. A German Christening record (see biographical information for son, Charles) lists John's name as "Johannes Maurer", and the name of his wife as "Eleonora Ruhel". The date for that christening was July 10, 1842 at "Evangelisch, Steinbach Giessen, Oberhessen, Hesse-Darmstadt", and it is assumed that Johannes lived, at least for a brief time, in this area before immigrating to the United States. Also found at the LDS Family Search website is a christening date for another son, "Ludwig", whose birthdate is the same as another documented son, Louis Maurer (1840-1917). At this writing, John/Johannes is estimated to have arrived in the United States around 1850. There is no record of Eleonora's burial at Woodmere.
