Nobility. Born the eldest son of Wilhelm 'the rich' and Maria of Habsburg. He went to Rome for the opening of the Holy Year 1575 where he met with Pope Gregory XIII. He died five weeks later of smallpox. The pope personally paid the cost for the funeral and an enormous funeral procession. Had he survived, the War of the Jülich succession would have been avoided.
