Son of Dr. George Coe Pender Sugg (1829-1869) and Nancy Bynum (1826-1892) of the St. Lewis district in Edgecombe Co, NC; and grandson of Dr. Pheasanton Southerland Sugg, (1805-1855) of Tarboro, Edgecombe Co, NC.

Married Emma Vines on May 31, 1877, who died in 1879, followed soon thereafter by their only child, "Little Mary Sugg"(1878-1879)

Married Catherine "Kate" Woodard on September 5, 1881. Parents to 10 known surviving children, most buried here.

A son, George C. Sugg, (1894-1963) is buried in South Carolina

Two sisters, Margaret Southerland Sugg, (1855-1939), and Irene Sugg, (1864-1958) are buried here.
