DONNELLSON — Raymond Keith Allen, 61, of Donnellson, passed away March 19, 2010, at his home.

He was born on May 8, 1948, in Ottumwa to Velven L. and Avis F. Bull Allen. He graduated from Cardinal High School in Eldon in 1966. While in high school, he was a state champion in cross country and track. In 1970, he graduated from Northeast Missouri State University where he was a four-year athletic letter winner in both track and cross country, competing in three national cross country meets and one national track meet.

He married Janice Nadine Bray on April 4, 1971, in LaHarpe, Ill. He received his masters degree from Northeast Missouri State University in 1986. Keith taught school in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa for 34 years, retiring from Fort Madison High School after 28 years of teaching industrial technology, best known for his auto mechanics classes. He also coached basketball, track and cross country during his years of teaching. He felt every student could learn and said they taught him. He enjoyed conversations with former students and athletes about the successes they were experiencing and felt privileged to have been a microscopic piece of their history. He enjoyed family, playing cards, driving and drove a late model racecar for 30 years at local tracks. He also enjoyed collecting die-cast cars and being part of the Big Brother Big Sister Program.

Keith is survived by his wife, Nadine Allen of Donnellson; two daughters, Christina (Mark) Paradis of St. Charles, Mo., and Heidi Allen of Hanover Park, Ill.; son, Shaun Allen of Hanover Park, Ill.; granddaughter, Lisabetta Paradis of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers, Wayne (Ann) Allen of Palatine, Ill., and Dale (Terri) Allen of Sugar Grove, Ill.; 11 nieces; eight nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ed Allen.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today, with the family to meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in Fort Madison.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Donnellson; with Rev. Robert Koepcke officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
