The funeral of Mrs. Halsey (Myrtle) Higginson 59, who died Thursday, was held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the Crossville Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Elijah T. Doty and Oscar Wallace officiating. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Lewis Hon Whetstone, Carl Whetstone, Leo Whetstone, Victor Pritchard, Bill Pritchard, Lewis Ed Pritchard. Singers were the church choir, under the direction of Merrill Boultinghouse. Interment was in Stokes Chapel Cem. The following obit. was read at the service:
Myrtle M. Higginson, daughter of Frank Hon and Belle Ralls Hon was born in White County, Illinois near Crossville on November 6, 1899 and died in Evansville, Ind. on August 27 1959 at the age of 59 years, 9 months and 21 days.
She was united in marriage to Halsey Higginson in White County, Ill. on June 16 1917 and to this union 7 children were born: two sons, Eugene of Farmington, N.M. and William Ray at home in Crossville; four daughters Mrs. Helen Kuykendall, Mrs. Mary Hargrave, and Mrs. Rita Jacobs all of Crossville and Mrs. Anna Ruth Wiggins of Houma, La. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne about 22 years ago.
Myrtle spent her girlhood days in the area about three miles northeast of Crossville and after marriage the rest of life was lived on a farm west of Crossville and for the past several years in the Village of Crossville. She has been in failing health since the 19th of June.
She attended church services at the Primitive Baptist Church in Crossville where she enjoyed the fellowship of a host of friends and relatives.
Myrtle was of a jovial disposition and had a friendly smile and greeting for all with whom she came in contact. She had a particular fondness for children everywhere and always stood ready to help a friend or neighbor in time of need. She enjoyed a wide acquaintance throughout White County and was held in high esteem by everyone.
Departing this life, she leaves to mourn, in additon to those previously mentioned, a brother, John L. Hon of Springfield, Ill., a sister Mrs. Lora Whetstone of Centerville, Ill. a half-brother William T. Funkhouser of Springfield, Ill. 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several other relatives and friends.
