Edith Baker Heemstra was born 27 August 1896 in Iowa, the eldest of TWO (2) daughters, to Robert and Effie Poortinga Baker. On 14 March 1918, she was united in marriage with Cornelius "Neal" Heemstra, who was the son of Marion and Katherine (Trintje) Heemstra. They spent most of their adult lives farming and raising TWO (2) children in the southern part of Jasper County, Iowa. Their children were, as follows : Marion Ray Heemstra (1920 - 1909) and Effie Katherine Heemstra Lubberden (1926-after2005.) "Neal" passed away on 01 April 1958, and was buried at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, Jasper County, Iowa, where his parents also rest. Edith died on 06 December 1966, and was re-united with her husband of slightly less than 50 years at Silent City Cemetery, Monroe, Iowa.
