Robert Baker was born in the year 1866 in The Netherlands, a son of Cornelius Baker and Ibeltje Mellema. Well before the turn of the 20th Century, Robert Baker migrated to the United State of America, as did the Poortinga families.
On 22 December 1894, at Galesburg, Jasper county, Iowa, he was joined in marriage with Effie (Aafke) Poortinga. The officiating Minister was Rev. F. Klooster. To this union were born TWO (2) daughters, Edith (1896-1966) and Eva (1902-????).
The Baker family farmed land in the Jasper County area near Monroe for much of their lives. Robert Baker died 16 April 1936, and is buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Pella, Marion County, Iowa. His wife, Effie (Aafke) was re-united 08 January 1955, when she died and was laid to rest beside him.
