John J. Leyes


John J. Leyes, 71, of 125 E. 8th St., died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Hospital after an illness of one month. He was born in St. Clements, Ontario, Canada, Aug 24, 1893 and came to Mishawaka from St. Clements in 1904.

He married Charlotte Kane in South Bend, Oct. 23, 1923. Surviving are his widow; four sons, William E. Leyes, of Mishawaka, Robert J., and James A. Leyes at home and Joseph C. Leyes, of South Bend; nine grandchildren; two sisters, The Misses Margaret and Monica Leyes, and a brother, Leo Leyes, all of Mishawaka.

Mr. Leyes was a veteran of World War I. He was retired by the Ball-Band Plant in 1957 after 35 years.

Friends may call in the Bent & Sprague funeral chapel from 7 until 9 p.m. today and from 2 until 5 and 7 uti8l 9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Church. Very Rev. Curt A. Suelzer, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel. Mr. Leyes was a member of St. Joseph's Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 360, Mishawaka, and the Veterans of World War I Barracks 830.
