Born in L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Urbain and Louise (Martell) Mombourquette. Joe was a teacher and principal at St. Albert School, Salmon River and Stella Maris, Meteghan for many years. He served on various committees for different organizations, some of which were Knights of Columbus, Conseil Sigogne 6348, past Grand Knight, St. Vincent de Paul Parish Council and chairman of the board Caisse Populaire de Clare. Survived by wife, Lucia;children, Jeanne (David) LeBlanc, Salmon River; Guy (Yvonne), Eric(Joanne), both of Meteghan River; Paul (Marie), South Ohio; Albert (Pamela),Woodvale; sister, Marie Pilon, L'Ardoise; grandchildren, Yvon, Lisanne,Laurelle, Alex; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, George, Maxie, Roy. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in Meteghan Funeral Home, with Knights of Columbus prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Salmon River with Rev. Albenid'Entremont officiating. Burial in parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, Victorian Order of Nurses or Canadian Cancer Society.
