January 15, 1929 - "On January 1, Harry R. Amott, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Overton, of North Ocean Avenue, was elected a director of S.W. Straus & Co., Incorporated, of New York city. Mr. Amott, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Amott of Bay Shore, formerly of Ronkonkoma, has risen rapidly in the financial world. For several years he has been one of the vice presidents of the company and is also a director of the bank recently opened by them in the same building. Mr. Amott, who is a graduate of Jamaica high school, and is 37 years old, married the former Miss Leonore Overton, a well known Patchogue girl, about 16 years ago. They resided on Park Avenue, New York City, but are well known here as they spend many weekends and vacations with Mrs. Amott's parents."

The 1940 census describes Harry as President of an Investment Company, living at 30 Beverly Road, Kensington, Nassau, NY.
