Lena was the oldest of 15 children born to Calvin Burnham Champion and Ann Slate Champion in Black Hall, (Old Lyme area)Connecticut. Lena married George Winthrop DeWolfe in Black Hall, September 25, 1867 and they were basically lifelong residents of the Old Lyme area, both actively participating in the Town's civic and social functions. Lena and George provided a home for Lena's mother and six of the younger children after the death of Lena's father, and they later adopted a son, Joseph C. DeWolfe, born August, 1882. Lena died at the age of 82, a direct descendant of the Henry Champion who was an original settler of first Saybrook, then Black Hall. She was survived by her husband, George, who lived to be age 90.
