Sister Jane Doolan, age 97, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. DePaul Sobotka, OFM, with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.

She was born Sept. 3, 1905, in Stark, Brown county, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Roeckel Doolan. She entered the convent in 1922 and professed her vows in 1925. Sister Jane earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere, and a Master of Arts degree from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. Sister Jane served as a teacher and/or principal at St. Mary, Rhinelander, Holy Innocents, Manitowoc, St. Francis, Hollandtown, Catholic Memorial High School, Waukesha, Messmer High School, Milwaukee, all in Wisconsin; Guardian Angels, West Point, Holy Family, Lindsay, both in Nebraska; St.
Nicholas, Rosecrans High School, Zanesville, St. Mary, Delaware, St. Benedict, Cambridge, St. Agnes, Mingo Junction, all in Ohio; Holy Name, Escanaba, St. Ambrose, Ironwood, St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, all in Michigan. She also served in pastoral Care at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, Ohio, St. Francis Memorial Hospital, West Point, Neb., and librarian at Roncalli High School, Manitowoc. She retired to San Damiano Convent, Slinger, in 1991 and Holy Family Convent in 1998. Since 2000, she has been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. She is a member of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.

Survivors include: The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Sister Mary Ellen Doolan, OSF,Manitowoc; Agnes and Clary Mangen, Elm Grove; and Virginia and Franklin Lyons, Bayside, Wis. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (TODAY) where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
